Dear CCSD#1 Families,
We wanted to provide you with information about the new bell schedule that aligns our K-8 schools with the high school's early Friday dismissal.
What's Changing: Beginning August 20th, all K-8 town schools will dismiss early on Fridays, matching our high school schedule. To maintain the same total instructional time, approximately 20 minutes will be added to Monday-Thursday schedules. This means school starts a little early and ends a little later: Bell Schedules.
Our Comprehensive Community Process: This change resulted from a thorough year-long study that included:
Calendar Working Group with representatives from all stakeholder groups
Multiple public meetings with advance community notification
Extensive surveys reaching 887 community participants
Detailed data analysis and board review
Full transparency through our regular board meeting process
Overwhelming Community Support:
74% of survey respondents supported the early Friday release
59% indicated no childcare concerns for Friday early dismissals
Strong backing across multiple community surveys and input sessions
What Remains the Same:
Total instructional time is unchanged
All educational programs and benefits continue
We're simply redistributing learning time across the week for better alignment
Next Steps: Complete bell schedules, transportation details, and other logistics will be included in our comprehensive back-to-school communications this August.
